長らく待望していたブートレッグ・シリーズ最新作の内容が遂に明らかに！未発表で謎多き1974年に行われた『血の轍』のレコーディング・セッションのすべてが初めて発表される。1991年『ブートレッグ・シリーズ第1〜3集』の発売以来、四半世紀を超える長期シリーズで、発表の度に高い評価を得ている“ブートレッグ・シリーズ”の最新作は、ボブ・ディランが1974年におこなった重要な6回のレコーディング・セッション ――ニューヨークの四日間（9月16、17、18、19日）とミネアポリスの二日間（12月27、30日）―― を収録。このセッションでディランは1975年発売の最高傑作『血の轍(ブラッド・オン・ザ・トラックス)』を完成させた。ディランの全キャリアの中でもベストセラーの1枚である『血の轍』は、モダン・ポップソング（1964～5年頃に事実上ディランが創作したと言えるジャンル）の曲づくりの境界や構造を新たに書き換え、ビルボード誌のアルバムチャート200で1位を獲得し、RIAAダブルプラチナムに公認され、2015年にグラミー・ホール・オブ・フェイムの殿堂入りを果たした。『血の轍』は、もともと1974年9月にニューヨーク・シティで四日間に渡って録音された。すぐにアルバムはマスタリングされ、テスト盤の配布も始まった。ところがその録音から3ヶ月後、ディランは、アルバムはもっと別のアプローチでつくられるべきだと感じ、12月末に収録曲のうちの5曲をミネアポリスのサウンド80スタジオで録音し直した。ニューヨーク・セッションのごく一部は海賊盤業者やコレクターに流出したが、いままで全貌はほとんどどんな形でも発表される事はなかった。『モア・ブラッド、モア・トラックス(ブートレッグ・シリーズ第14集)』のライナーノーツにジェフ・スレイトはつぎのように記している。「スタジオのディランはヘッドフォンをつけることさえせずにライヴですばらしい演奏を――彼が録音したなかでも最高の演奏を――つぎつぎと録音している。ほかの多くの演奏者たちとちがって、サウンドの完成度を高めるためのオーヴァーダブもほとんど施していない。録音された曲のなかには、ディラン――ギターとハーモニカと一連な偉大な曲を携えたひとりのシンガー――がいて、適切な箇所で聞く者の心を躍らせ、必要な箇所で聞く者の心を打ち砕く……またここに収められた歌と演奏は、ぼくたちが聞いたどのヴァージョンよりも純粋な状態にある。アルバム『血の轍』制作のとき、ディランはプロデューサーのフィル・ラモーンに命じて、ほとんどのマスターの速度を2パーセントから3パーセント、上げるよう指示した。この方法は、1960年代から70年代にかけて、とくにAMラジオ向けのレコードに頻繁に用いられた。そうすることで曲の勢いが増し、リスナーの気をひきやすいと考えられていたのだ。公式のものも非公式のものも、これまで発表されていたニューヨーク・セッションの曲のほとんどは、ディランの要請によって速度を上げたヴァージョンだった。『モア・ブラッド、モア・トラックス(ブートレッグ・シリーズ第14集)』で初めて、ディランが録音したときのままの形の曲を聞くことができる」デラックス・エディション（完全限定盤/CD6枚組）には、ニューヨーク・セッションのアウトテイク、未完成なども含めたすべてと、ミネアポリスのサウンド80セッションの現存する5曲が録音順にまとめられている。ブートレッグ・シリーズのプロデューサーたちが可能な限り良質な音源を探した結果、収録曲の多くにはオリジナルのマルチトラック・セッション・テープが使われている。ただ、ミネアポリス・サウンド80のセッションで残されていたテープは、発売された『血の轍』に収められた5曲のマルチトラック・マスターだけだった。このテープを『モア・ブラッド、モア・トラックス(ブートレッグ・シリーズ第14集)』に収めるために、新たなミキシングとマスタリングがおこなわれた。また、デラックス・エディションは完全生産限定盤として発売されるため、初回生産分が完売したあと、追加生産されることはない。この貴重なボックスセットには、ロック史研究家のジェフ・スレイトによるライナーノーツと、ディランの手書きで歌詞を書き留めた57ページのノートブックを完全複製したハードカバーのフォト・ブックも収容されている。このノートブックを読めば、『血の轍』に収められた歌が、どのように歌詞を書き換えながら完成させていったかがわかるだろう。
