アメリカン・プログレッシヴ・ハードの雄、カンサス。74年のメジャー・デビュー以来、70年代～80年代、そして今もなお全世界のアリーナ、スタジアムでライヴ活動を積極的に展開。アメリカを代表するバンドとして、根強い人気を誇っている。2016年には最新アルバム『暗黙の序曲』をリリース。
確固たる地位を築くに至るきっかけとして、1976年に発表した『永遠の序曲』、また76年に発表した『暗黒への曳航』の大ヒットがあげられる。
今作は、2016年アルバム『暗黙の序曲』のリリース後に敢行された、北米ツアーからのライヴ盤。ツアーの模様を余すところなく、2時間、19曲を収録。このツアーはバンドのニュー・ラインナップ、ニュー・アルバム、そして 彼らの代表作『永遠の序曲』の40周年を祝うツアーであり、『永遠の序曲』からアルバム順に全曲を演奏。「すべては風の中に」「帰らざる航海」など、70年代の代表曲を網羅。また2016年の最新アルバム『暗黙の序曲』 からの楽曲も収録されている。プロデュースは『永遠の序曲』も含め、長年の亘り、カンサスの作品に関わっているジェフ・グリックスマン。
アルバム『永遠の序曲』と『暗黙の序曲』の両作品のイメージを融合させたアートワークも印象的だ。
